Tax Deductions - Working at Home

"If you work from home, certain expenses that are unique to your situation are deductible on your income taxes. Find out which expenses are tax deductible with help from TurboTax in this video on tax tips."  Tips from Turbo Tax

It may not be for everyone, but I've been a Turbo Tax fan for years. "Hard to believe, but you can get a tax break for staying in your pajamas and fuzzy bunny slippers to run your business.
Many people who leave jobs—either voluntarily or following a lay-off—choose to start their own business and work out of their homes. Once you switch from life as an employee to become an independent contractor, your tax situation also changes. Here are several things you can do to keep your tax house in order:"  Check out the Turbo Tax article :  Working at Home .
The best tip I've ever received from any tax person..Keep Your Receipts.  If you have friends that are self-employed, check with their tax adviser for tips to keep it all organized..if this is something new for you..  Most of all...don't make up the numbers.
We actually have a tax man come and speak to one of our local Mary Kay teams..because he handles so many Mary Kay directors and consultants his tips for intelligent record keeping is great.
Working in your slippers is still work!!

So many of us have talked about it in the lunch room or when we've had a difficult day at work.  Sometimes it's when things have gotten tight at home or the unexpected bill has come up.

With so many scams out there it can be scary to select a real one. If you don't want to do parties or cold call, this is a great opportunity.  I'm glad that I found it and felt in my heart that it was real.  To top it all off, one of my members at church worked this business right out of high-school but wasn't ready to handle the needed conversations.  I was super excited when she confirmed that they were legitimate and yes she got paid while she worked it.  Daily and monthly residuals...Yeah!!

Even if this is not the opportunity for you, check it out, share it with friends and family, pray and ask God to open the right door for you just as He's done for me.

God Bless...WAHM!!

Home Organization Rules

Everything has its place.  My mother now lives with us and this statement is always in the back of my mind.  I was the messy daughter.  Who has time to clean up, work from home, do the laundry, homework with the kids, cook a good meal?  We do.  I'm determined to get better with each room in our home.

Start with one room at a time.  Don't get overwhelmed with trying to do everything all at the same time.

If you are blessed to work from home...Yeah!!..be careful working more on housework than running your business.  Either way, we must keep our sanity and get (and keep) our home organized.

Here's a good link from HGTV,  Home Organization Rules .  Or  Real Simple Low Cost Organizing

Be careful not to make your home full of rubber tubs.  Clutter free is key.

Be Blessed,

Mary Ricketts

Getting organized

No matter what your job is, the Work at Home Mom, Dad or single person has to be super organized.  If you are not already a bit OCD...get there.  If you have a person close to you...that you can trust not to throw out all of your favorite things ask them for help.  I'm so glad that my mom is here to help me get back on track.

Files and folders are a must.  Don't forget to label and keep them in a convienient place for easy access.  There's nothing more frustrating for me to leave a file upstairs when I'm downstairs in my home office.  Up the stairs I go again.

How to keep the kids out of your area?  Be sure that they have their own space.  If you're working offline and not on the phone, let them be closer to your.  For some reason, my children seem to sense when I'm on the phone.  I've learned to let them hang out close to me when I'm offline---this is great for them to read outloud to me or play a video game that's in my view to cheer them on.

Hope it helps...please share your tips.
